A girl and her guitar

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I have been having fun working with Ali this summer.  We have been experimenting with different shots trying to come up with something that would appeal to the graduates.    Music is very important to Ali so we did some shots with her guitar.  At the same time I did some experimentation with new finishing techniques.

These have  been delayed for some weeks as I have been ramping up my business.  I now have a booth at the local farmer’s market.  I display portraits and have nature prints and cards for sale.  Gives me a chance to meet people and chat about one of my favorite topics, photo art.  I think that I will try to avoid the simple term of photography because to take a great picture requires so much more than point and shoot.

Here are some of the results.  These images are larger than usual so will not view properly as a slide show in some browsers.

Partying with 50,000 people

Monday, August 17th, 2009

The Acadian World Congress was held in Caraquete, New Brunswick on August 15th.  It was the largest to date.  These are some shots from the evening of the  ’Tintamare’.  Tintamare basically means making as much noise as possible.  People were yelling, blowing trumpets, banging on drums, bottles, and anything else that would be make a sound.  The noise was deafening.

In 1755, the Acadians were forcibly deported to Europe and all along the eastern seaboard of the United States and up to South America.  This is where the ‘Cajuns’ from Louisiana come from.  August 15th has become a celebration of a people, who against all odds, made it back to this area and continued on.

Well every now and then you just have to get away to recharge the old batteries.  We took the August long weekend away and headed to Tatamagouche area in Nova Scotia.  Of course I could not get away completely as I brought my camera along (A new Canon 5D MkII).

Here are a few shots.  I made these a little bigger than usual so do not run them as a slide show as it will clip them.  Just click on the first one and you can then click the next to see the next one.  Enjoy.

Just a friendly reminder that these are my copyright images.
